Project Description Country: USA Location: Phoenix area Total Budget: $5,000 Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment Activity Type: Education: Scholarship Summary: Provide scholarships to help needy students obtain medical training to assist in hospital environments. The Paradise Valley Rotary will provide $5,000 in scholarships, through Gateway Community College, to assist students with their education for entry level medical careers. The areas of study include: EMT, health unit coordinator, EEG, polysomnography, and surgical technology. Area hospital patients will be the ultimate beneficiaries of these medical student's expertise. The project will begin with the July 1, 2021 Rotary year and end with the award of the scholarships. 5 - 10 Rotary members will interview and evaluate the potential candidates and select the award winners. All club members will have participated in the fund raising for this project. These scholarships are being awarded in honor of our recently deceased charter member and past president, Lui Merlino. Alan Havir, PDG, will be spearheading this project.
