Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Tempe, Arizona

Total Budget: $6,000

Areas of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention, Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Community Needs Assessment

Summary: 11 Emergency Trunk kits to support Arizona Department of Safety as they remove children from unhealthy environments to impact 338 kids

There are 80 children who are removed from Maricopa county homes each week. There are 18,000 children currently in the Arizona foster system. A majority of the children who come into foster care, come with only the clothes they are wearing and are usually dirty. This project will create 11 trunk kits given to DCS to help them when removing children from their environment. These kits contain diapers, pajamas, wipes, underwear, and a $250 visa gift card for food. Each kit will serve 26 kids.

These trunks will be immediately available to DCS through OCJ kids within days of funding the project.

Club members will work with OCK kids to build the trunk kits and deliver them to the DCS offices.

Congratulations. Your application has been approved. There was not enough DDF to fully fund all projects. You've been awarded $2050. We hope your club will be able to fund the remainder of the project in another way.

I'm so sorry for the inconvenience, but (though the "block" district grant has been approved) The Rotary Foundation has not yet released the funds. It's frustrating when things like this are out of our hands, but we hope to be sending money to the clubs very soon. Thanks for your patience.

I emailed yesterday to the aministrator@matchinggrants.org, asking for an extension that we are in communication with OCJ kids and their bookkeeper is a volunteer and doesn't always work in the office. She is working on getting the receipts but we may not have them until May. Thank you for your patience and we will get everything finished as soon as possible.
