#1. Students at Tarrant County College, 70 % of whom qualify for financial aid, frequently encounter obstacles to their continued education and skills training that create insurmountable barriers that can be overcome with small grants of $500 or less. GRC will contribute $10,253.20 to the TCC Foundation's Eliminating Barriers-Student Emergency Financial Assistance Fund that will help many students stay in school and eventually complete their education and obtain good paying jobs, begin a career and/or start a small business that will make them financially independent.
#2. The Grapevine Community Outreach Center, sponsored by the Grapevine Police Department, exists to foster communication and cooperation between law enforcement and local residents. The Center offers ESL and GED classes for all those who need them and it also operates a VAST After-School Program that provides a safe and structured environment for at-risk elementary and middle school students from 6 different GCISD schools, some 90 + students daily. This gives these students access to structure, tutoring, cultural exposure, long-term mentors, healthy snacks and dinner, access to technology and emotional support. GRC will provide $7,307 for the purchase and installation of much needed new outside furniture.
