Summary: Provide food and school supplies for children of low-income families during the school year.


Children from low-income families often go hungry during weekends. The food we give them will provide nutrition over the weekends. Candidates for support are vetted through interviews to determine eligibility. Parents of the children are from "English as a Second Language" families and will attend no-charge classes in English and "How to Succeed in America" as a requirement for eligibility. At the same time, the children will be in separate rooms getting help with their homework. The language/homework programs will occur Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings each week during the school year. The project funds will be spent on food and school supplies. No other expenses will be reimbursed. All of the Surf City Rotary Club members will be involved in the purchasing and packing of food and school supplies.
