Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Oak Forest

Total Budget: $4,000

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: Volunteer Services

Summary: Provide 60+ studentsaged 4-6 yrs old with supplemental food items each weekend throughout the weekend.

We have identified at least 40% of students in our local schools are eligible for reduced or free lunch programs. We would like to provide a bag for as many of these students as possible to be sent home with them on Friday so that they can return to school on Monday ready to learn instead of ready for a meal. This will increase overall health, focus at school, and more.

At least 10 members of our club will be involved and over 50 volunteers from around the community.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

4/13/21 The Rotary Foundation has approved replacing the Oak Forest Backpack Program, which has been temporarily suspended by the school district due to the assistance they are receiving from state and federal food pantries. Instead the District Grant funds to their College Scholarships for High School Seniors project, which will be completed in May. Rachel Ossyra, DRFCC

We will restart the program when the school administrators notify us of the need. This program normally ends at the end of the school year.
