Project Period: September 2025 - December 2025

Project Objective:

To provide affordable and immediate posterior segment surgery to many middle class and underprivileged cataract patients during the surgery, who may need a further surgical intervention which is vitrectomy; retinal detachment after cataract, dropped nucleus/retained lens and acute postoperative endophthalmitis.

Preamble :

PKC Hospital is a charitable institution offering medical support at very nominal costs to the public, mainly serving economically weaker sections of society. PKC Hospital (a Trust hospital) where on an average there are around 60 patients per month, who are currently referred to other hospitals, as they are lacking in posterior segment surgical instruments necessary for performing various types of eye surgeries -

1. Retinal detachment

2. Vitreous hemorrhage

3. Diabetic retinopathy complications

4. Complicated cataract and dislocated IOL

5. Macular hole surgery

6. Retinal vascular occlusion with epiretinal membrane

7. Complicated glaucoma

These instruments form an essential part of operational facility for vision saving and rehabilitation purpose.

Rotary International District 3142 has supported several projects at PKC Hospital in the past, and all equipment donated has been well maintained and efficiently operated.

Budget Breakdown

Generally in Private hospitals the average cost for such surgical procedures are charged ₹65,000 to 1,10,000 (765 - 1295 USD) depending the complexity of the case.

Proposal is to support PKC hospital to have this equipment so that they can conduct the surgeries at a nominal cost of ₹30,000 to 55,000 (356 - 647 USD)

Impact & Monitoring:

• Will have direct impact on the family of the patient as the patient can continue with the quality of life

• Rotary club members will visit the hospital and Obtain progress reports of the surgeries performed on a monthly basis

Execution & Disbursement:

• Rotary Club to disburse funds to the vendor for the purchase of the equipment's directly.

• PKC to execute program & share beneficiary data and reports.

Rotary's involvement will be a catalyst for the underprivileged society members.

This project can be done within a 1-2 months
