Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Yamunanagar

Total Budget: $167,507

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

Mulkh Raj Ram Dulari Nanda Rotary Yamunanagar Charitable Eye & General Hospital, Farakpur

Identified Needs

The Yamunanagar district, particularly the Farakpur area and its surrounding villages, shows a high prevalence of untreated eye disorders like cataracts and refractive errors, as well as significant dental health issues, especially among children and industrial laborers. With no accessible, specialized medical facility in the area, these communities remain underserved.

Project Objectives

This Global Grant will help establish a state-of-the-art Eye and Dental Care Hospital in Farakpur. The facility will cater to laborers, villagers, and low-income families, offering affordable and quality care. The hospital will be equipped with essential ophthalmic and diagnostic devices and a robust HVAC system to ensure safe, sterile, and efficient operations.

How the Project Will Meet the Needs

The hospital will provide:

Routine and surgical eye care (e.g. cataract removal, refraction services).

Preventive and restorative dental care.

Awareness and early detection programs through community outreach.

The facility will serve as a referral and training hub, collaborating with local clinics and doctors, and attracting trained specialists through incentivized training and development.

Project Timeline

Construction & Interiors: Completed by Rotary Yamunanagar (in progress, to be completed within 6 months).

Procurement & Setup of Equipment: 3-6 months post-funding.

Launch & Initial Operations: Within 12 months of grant approval.

Use of Project Funds

The funds requested through the Global Grant (Total: ₹1,42,38,134 / approx. USD 167,507 ) will be used for:

Medical Equipment: LED Vision Chart, Autorefractor with Keratometer, Slit Lamp, Phaco Machine, Microscope, Dental Chair etc.

HVAC System: For climate-controlled and hygienic medical environments.

Club Member Involvement

Rotary Yamunanagar members are already constructing the hospital with funds contributed by the members and the local community and for the Global Grant Project will:

Oversee project implementation and vendor selection.

Coordinate medical training programs.

Organize awareness camps and screening drives.

Monitor usage and maintenance of funded assets to ensure long-term impact.

Past Grant Success

Rotary Yamunanagar has successfully completed two previous Global Grant projects:

Mobile Dental Bus

Oral Cancer Detection Program

These underline the club's experience, commitment, and capacity to implement and sustain impactful healthcare projects.

This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
