Otorhinolaryngology Medical Brigades

Since 2012, HanesBrands and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in North Carolina have partnered to help people in the Dominican Republic with free otorhinolaryngology surgeries in the public Hospital José A. Columna in Bonao.

21st Medical Brigades 1,321 patients have had surgery to date.

Some surgeries of the program

Tympanoplasty

Septoplasty

Otoplasty

Thyroidectomy

Cleft lip and palate

Adenoidectomy

Tonsillectomy

Lipoma

Stapedectomy

The director is James Dale Browne, MD.

He is the Director of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. And the doctor for the Dominican counterpart is Dr. Antonio Maria Leonardo Linares.

The surgeries are currently performed at the José A. Columna Hospital, one of the public hospitals in the province of Monseñor Nouel, in the city of Bonao.

These surgeries are for the benefit of all people, regardless of age or gender, who have an ENT condition that requires surgery and are unable to pay for it due to lack of financial resources.

The Hanes Company would like to form an alliance with Rotary International to raise funds that will allow these medical brigades to continue over time and reach more people who would otherwise not be able to benefit from these surgeries due to the high cost of approximately US$1,695.00 for the most basic surgery, which is very difficult to obtain in the country's public hospitals.

The Hanes Hands with Heart Volunteer Program is made up of Hanes employees, their families and community members who donate their time and talents to cover all needed functions such as hospital stretcher bearers, translators, laundry workers, childcare workers, photographers, typists, order takers, call takers, volunteer nurses, report writers, coffee makers and more. No experience is needed, just an open mind and a heart to serve others. Together, we can make a difference!

Our collective efforts can make a profound impact on the lives of those in need. We invite you to envision a brighter future-a future where compassion and generosity intersect to create lasting change.

Imagine a child who cannot hear the laughter of their friends, an adult struggling to communicate due to a throat ailment, or an elderly person whose world has grown silent. These are the individuals who benefit from otorhinolaryngology surgery-the field that addresses disorders of the ear, nose, and throat. It's more than just medical procedures; it's about restoring hope, dignity, and quality of life.

HanesBrands and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist have been steadfast in their commitment to this cause. Their skilled surgeons, dedicated staff, and unwavering support have transformed countless lives. But they cannot do it alone. They need our financial backing to expand their reach, serve more patients, and ensure the program's longevity.

By contributing financially, you become a vital part of this healing journey. Your support enables surgeries, provides post-operative care, and offers hope to those who have suffered silently for far too long. Together, we can amplify the impact of these life-changing procedures.

As we look ahead, let us remember that our actions today ripple through time. Let us be the architects of hope, the champions of compassion, and the stewards of lasting change. Together, we can ensure that otorhinolaryngology surgeries continue to transform lives for years to come.
