We have identified a need for improved Oral Hygiene in the village of Engacura in Nakuru County of the Republic of Kenya. It is located 189 kilometers away from Nairobi. The main concern is that in this village of 1723 persons, there is very little dental care. The objective is to teach two people in the village how to care for their teeth so that others can care for their teeth too. Poor oral hygiene is common in remote villages. They do not have toothbrushes, toothpaste, nor floss. This project falls into two of the six Rotary Foundation Areas of focus. It will help with dental disease prevention, for teeth and gums. And also for maternal health and child health. Gum disease causes premature births. The remoteness of this village does not allow for proper oral health care. This project could help a small village with a small effort. A small team of dental professionals will go to Kenya and teach several people proper oral hygiene with toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss. There will be ongoing oral hygiene instruction for the future. If possible, emergency extractions can be performed by the dentist on the team.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
