Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Bharuch

Total Budget: $222,973

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

Good Health Care for the masses, is among the most overlooked problems in India, where primary healthcare infrastructure is not robust like other developed countries. India has a vast health care system, but there remain many differences in quality between rural and urban areas as well as between public and private health care.

Diagnostic services play a vital role in spotting the health problems and informing medical interventions that make the integrity of the test a crucial aspect as the doctor takes the decision based on the reports. Right from the time the Diagnostic test is collected, the pre-test, and till the report reaches, the whole integrity of the system must not be breached as it could result in the whole detection and treatment process getting complicated.

Access to health care facilities is significantly urban biased. So, people living in the rural areas face the additional handicap of such a situation and they form a disproportionately larger share of the unhealthy population. With proper treatment, millions can enter the mainstream of life resulting in adding many more millions to the labor market, as even care givers now can concentrate their full energies in economic activity. By curing and preventing diseases, India can dramatically improve its productivity and reduce the overall burden of healthcare on families as well as economy at large.

The objective of the proposed project by Rotary Club of Bharuch is to equipped and modernize SPD Rotary Diagnostic Centre Bharuch with new machines to provide good CT Scan facilities to the economically challenged population at very subsidized rates. Demography of Bharuch -Midway to Vadodara and Surat cities, on western side up to Dahej & Hansot Areas & on eastern side whole tribal belt including adjoining areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. People in this catchment have large section of tribal, illiterate, rural and deprived population. Hence load of pending diseases, surgeries and other illnesses are more than average in this part of Gujarat state.

Rotary Club of Bharuch, District 3060, has been working with many local Hospitals for carrying out its Medical Camps in the rural areas. By developing the CT Scan unit of Shroff Punamchand Devchand Rotary Diagnostic Centre under this project, Rotary will be able to far-spread the benefit to economically challenged community and provide them with latest Medical care at subsidized rates.

Demography of Bharuch - For following reasons the problem is more intricate and bigger for the catchment area of Bharuch which includes -

• Midway to Vadodara and Surat cities.

• On western side up to Dahej & Hansot Areas.

• On eastern side whole tribal belt including adjoining areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh

People in this catchment have large section of tribal, illiterate and deprived population. Hence load of pending operations and other illnesses are more than average in this part of Gujarat state.

The objective of the proposed project by Rotary Club of Bharuch is to equip and modernize Shroff Punamchand Devchand Rotary Diagnostic Centre with new CT Scan Machine to provide good ophthalmic facilities to the economically challenged population at very subsidized rates.

Shroff Punamchand Devchand Rotary Diagnostic Centre is a renowned Diagnostic Centre since 2003 for last 18 years. Over the years the Centre has been catering to the healthcare needs of the citizen community of Bharuch District as well as a large expatriate population. The Centre has grown over the years, adopted newer technologies, new practices, embraced modernization and today caters to an ever growing community's healthcare needs across a 75 km radius encompassing towns like Dahej, Bhesli, Jolva, Ittaly, Vagra, Jambusar, Netrang, Valia. As on date, the Centre caters to the healthcare needs of huge population across various age groups of Bharuch District. Rotary Club of Bharuch, District 3060, has been working with support of this Permanent Project of Diagnostic Centre for carrying out its Medical Camps in the rural and city areas. Also other organizations are doing medical camps with this SPDR Diagnostic Centre and during it, these equipment's will be helpful for diagnosis. By providing advanced CT Scan equipment to Shroff Punamchand Devchand Rotary Diagnostic Centre Bharuch under this project, Rotary will be able to far-spread the benefit to economically challenged community and provide them with latest medical care at subsidized rates.

The CT Scan unit will be operated by qualified radiologist Doctors, technicians and supported by trained nurses and shall operate six days a week. We have also planned for the capacity building training at the SPDRD Centre & it would be responsible for the day to day running of the CT Scan unit and adhering to the laws and regulations of the government. The project will be self-sufficient as Shroff Punamchand Devchand Diagnostic Centre will be maintaining the equipment's and running the project from their own operational funds and will charge minimal amount from the beneficiaries after the project the grant funds has been expended.

Results of the community need assessment have prioritized such advanced CT Scan diagnosis at subsidized rates. The SPDRD Centre has committed to benefit the community with such advanced eye treatment at subsidized rates. This project shall be verified for its success and ability to meet the specified objectives at the end of every year.

The Host Project Committee along with the doctors of the Centre will be continuously involved in implementation and monitoring of the whole project.
