Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Mozambique

Location: Zambezia Province

Total Budget: $50,000

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

The Punta Gorda Rotary Club, Dist. 6960, and the Beira Rotary Club, Dist. 9210, are bringing clean water to remote villages in Zambezia Province, Mozambique, Africa. The impact on villagers of wells we put in with our NGO partner Water4Life is remarkable. With the village well, everything changes for the better. Girls no longer walk miles to fetch water, so they can get an education and are less at risk for rape and human trafficking, there is less sickness, and village gardens can be grown.

This is our second global grant for wells in Mozambique villages, and it will bring a well each to at least seven villages. We hope to have the grant funded by June 15, 2021. We invite other clubs to partner with us by contributing to the grant. A typical club contribution is $1,000-$2,000 but any amount is welcome. We also encourage you to seek a DDF (District Designated Funds) match to multiply your contribution.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
