The Rotary Club of Ilorin with great understanding of the global need for clean water and improved sanitation, being one of Rotary Foundation's six areas of focus, discussed and interacted with the community leaders of the 8 (Eight) Poverty stricken communities and they complained about the lack of portable water for domestic purposes which has led to poor sanitation. The lack of clean water and poor sanitation has caused many diseases.
Making a difference in these communities in the areas of water and sanitation will significantly affect the lives of all in these communities as the only available water they have access to is from shallow rivers that carries diseases and the stress in getting the water has made hand washing very difficult. Additionally these water sources are 1-4km away from the villages, requiring women and children to trek as much as 15-20 hours per week to fetch it. This is evident in the mortality rate, resentment to good education by the children as they do not have access to portable water and spend most early hours going through routine stress getting water for the family and household hence exhaustion cum resentment and the rate of spread of Covid-19 is increasing daily as water is not available for washing of hands and other hygiene and sanitation activities
Viruses are much smaller than bacteria and are typically harder to remove from hands. This means it's important to wash hands thoroughly (for about 20 seconds), creating a nice soapy lather, scrubbing all over your hands and then rinsing the soap off fully.
Hands get easily re-contaminated. An hour after hand washing with soap they will typically be as contaminated as prior to washing them. This means it's important to wash your hands as regularly as possible.
It is expected that providing the boreholes will contribute to reduce the rate of increment of the spread of Covid-19 and other diseased and take away morning fatigue thus energized zeal towards education as we encourage them and support them during the course of this project while we visit quarterly for one year to ensure the impact of the project is maximally felt and optimized
