Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Nigeria

Location: Ugbodu

Total Budget: $30,000

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Water, sanitation and hygiene, Maternal and child health, Community economic development

A community needs assessment was carried out at Ugbodu Community, a rural village in Aniocha Local government area of Delta State. We discovered that this community depends on rainwater from mostly rusty rooftops during the rainy season, and during the dry season, they have to walk many kilometers every day to fetch water from a stream in which nearly all conceivable activities involving water is undertaken.

By undertaking this project We wish to provide a borehole, water filtration system, build overhead tanks, and reticulate clean pipe-borne water across the community. Due to power shortages and unreliable power supply in the area, we also wish to provide a diesel-powered generator to enable the community to pump water from the borehole when necessary.

This project will engage the 15 member Project Service Committee of the club, in the supervision and execution of the project.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
