This project tends to address the deplorable optometry condition at the rehabilitation centre for the blind

Akpodim rehabilitation centre houses over 75 inmates who are currently blind and are undrgoing rehabilitation with different kind of crafts -(male and female)

as we have it today, akpodim rehabilitation centre is the sole initiative of the diocese of mbaise imo state. It is situated in the rural area of akpodim in ezinihitte mbaise local government area. Mbaise in imo state is made up of three local government areas (county) this centre covers these three local government areas, where students, teachers and the elderly in that society are made to receive optometric treatments with a very poor and most times, with non existent equipment.

some students, who would have become useful to the society loose thier sights at an early state, due to lack of medical attention and with no equipment to adress minor issues like gluoma etc. When these ailments are discovered on time, potential lives are saved for the societal benefits.

Most of our teachers in those communities, having served meriteruosly, given their best to nurture a child from primary to college are exposed to this menance. They are abandoned, no good medical information on eye issues, let alone proper treatment. Such situation brings about fraustration, untimely deathd and regreats of service to fatherland.

The government have not considereed it appropriate to come to the aid of these senior citizens who even assisted in bringing some of them up and nutured them to lime light. To a large extent they face stigmatization in their various communities and even in their own immediate homes, hence most of them find solace in the rehabilitation centre.

Provision of optometry equipments and training for the manufacturing of soap, pomade and production of polythene bags will address :

1. The potential health hazards this poses to the teachers and students and by extention, to the community

2. The training in the acts of soap making, pomade and polythene making will also adress the area of economic empowerment and for life sustenance.

3. It will alleviate the suffering of members of the immediate community, especially women who in most cases, are most vulnerable.
