01. Project Title: Supplying of CORONA VIRUS TESTING EQUIPMENT / apparatus (PCR, Bio Safety Cabinet, Accessories etc) to Rajshahi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre Trust, Shyampur, Mashkatadigi, Rajshahi.
02. Objectives: To increase testing facility in Rahshahi-North Western Zone to support - complement government programs. The center will conduct testing at Rajshahi Cancer Hospital, as well as, will operate 4-6 sub-centers at different locations for collecting samples in the prescribed procedure. Rajshahi Cancer Hospital has a Mobile Clinical Van which will also function as a Mobile Sample Collection Unit.
03. Project Description: Bangladesh, like many countries of the world is in grip of COVID-19 pandemic, being a developing nation, its public health system is not fully developed. 'TEST-TEST-TEST'' is WHO's guideline to cope with the crisis, and Bangladesh has limited testing facilities. The virus is already spreading at community level. Increasing testing facilities is an urgent need. The project will provide equipment to expand testing facilities in areas of Rahshahi city and adjacent areas. The project will operate in cooperation with government health department, as per government guidelines
Expected output/ beneficiary: Around 20,000 beneficiaries are expected to get the direct benefit out of this initiative. Once pandemic situation is over, the unit will continue to provide other testing services.
04. Introduction of Consortium/ Partner Organizations:
(a). Rotary - Rotary International is a global, private, non-profit voluntary organization, operating in Bangladesh since 1937. The Organization is engaged in humanitarian and educational activities aimed at building international understanding and peace. Rotary is the spear head organization of UN's Global Polio Eradication Initiative along with WHO, UNICEF, CDC, National governments, and others international partners. In Bangladesh, Polio eradication/NIDs Rotary clubs played pivotal roles providing funds, material and voluntary hours of its members at the grassroots level. In Corona crisis, Rotary Clubs are providing humanitarian services like, Free Sanitizer kits distribution, masks distribution, food ration to poor and PPE for medical professional etc.
(b) Rahshahi Cancer Hospital and Research Center Trust. It is a private health service provider. It has government permission and is supported by Rotary International. The hospital has already been selected by the government as a QUARANTINE Centre. The Hospital has adequate physical infrastructure space and logistical support to support/operate the Testing Unit. The Hospital has qualified doctors, technicians and other staffs to operate the testing centre.
( c) Rajshahi University: Rajshahi University is a Public University. Its Genetic Engineering and Bio Technology Department is a highly qualified science faculty to undertake Corona related services to assist Rajshahi Cancer Hospitals to Jointly operate the Testing Laboratory, Including training of technicians and in data collection, report writing and documentation.
