Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Peru

Location: Arequipa

Total Budget: $42,500

Area of Focus: Community economic development

In the upper part of the district of Mariano Melgar is the Housing Association San Jerónimo, with a population of 982 families, meaning an estimated 4,000 inhabitants, as well as neighboring towns.

The community members met to discuss the problems facing the San Jeronimo. In this place of Arequipa, there is poverty, alcoholism, family violence and its priorities is the need for a bakery, popular to ensure that people are trained and inserted in the workplace managing and operating a bakery, the same that will benefit the population of the place and surroundings.

We have a great opportunity to work with vulnerable adults and young people socially, offering the opportunity for productive employment that insert into the labor market independently, creating their own business plan and executing it to achieve business formalization and thus change their status vulnerability in a state of continuous improvement in your life.

The project involves training a group of people in the administration and development of products. In this sense, workers become self-sustaining bakery and the same time generate income in their homes.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
