SUSTAINABILITY

What community needs will your project address and how were these needs identified? Provide any relevant data or survey results.

İt is aimed to fulfil local community's clean and healthy water needs by chlorination units powered by solar energy. Chlorination units will run with solar energy, so this will contribute to the development of the country's economy. In addition, this need has been identified after negotiations made with formal officals of the villages. Also, as a result of negotiations with the Kastamonu Special Provincial Administration, it has been identified that there is not a service involving the installation of chlorination units to the villages. Therefore, we believe that we should set up chlorination units and provide clean water for the local community.

Detail how your project will address these community needs.

Primarily, this project is giving an opportunity to the local people to have healthy water in their villages. Children are constantly becoming ill because they drink dirty water. After our project, we aim to have clean water and reduce disease rates of all local people, especially children. Clean water will improve mother and child health, and ensure the healthy birth. Then children will grow up healthily. mortality rates will decrease and finally, they will have healthy life.

How were members of the local community involved in planning the project? Does your project align with any current or ongoing local initiatives?

Local people were informed about the project through officials of the village and they told us that they were waiting for the project to happen. Especially children are very happy to have clean water thanks to this project. Furthermore, as a result of negotiations with local governments, we learned that there would be no chlorination work in these villages. So, local governments have promised to support us in this project. And ultimately, our project aligns with a ongoing initiative.

Describe any training, community outreach, or educational programs, if applicable, and who will conduct them. How will recipients be selected?

Educational program can be listed as a summary as follows:

• Keeping water tanks clean

• Cleaning and maintenance of water tanks

• Educating the local population for not wasting water

Educations will be given to adult local people by Kastamonu Rotary Club members who are doctors. In addition, we will ask for help in some matters from technical staff of the company that will build water tanks.

ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Which goals will your activity support?

• Promoting disease prevention programs, with the goal of limiting the spread of communicable diseases and reducing the incidences of and complications from non-communicable diseases,

• Enhancing the health infrastructure of local communities

• Educating and mobilizing communities to help prevent the spread of major diseases

• Supporting studies for career-minded proffesionals related of to disease prevention and treatment

• Providing equitable community access to safe water, improve sanitation and hygiene

• Strengthening the ability of communities to develop, fund and maintain sustainable water and sanitation systems

• Supporting programs that enhance communities' awareness of the benefits of safe water, sanitation and hygiene

• Reducing the mortality and morbidity rate for children under the age of five

• Reducing the maternal mortality and morbidity rate

How will you meet these goals?

Villages in which we will build chlorination units, have water but they request drink clean and healthy water. The government supports the community on drinking water, but water is not clean and this results in unhealthy life. Once the chlorination units is established local people will have the opportunity to reach hygienic and healthy water.

How will you measure your impact?
