Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Brazil

Location: Francisco Beltrão

Total Budget: $41,774

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Basic education and literacy

The traffic in our region is chaotic, causing many fatal accidents, injuries and immense psychological damage in the community. Even serious conflicts, with deaths in discussions for some misconception committed by driver has occurred.

After several conversations with organized entities, governmental and representatives of the community, we understand that:(1) lack of education in traffic, (2) lack of knowledge of standards, and (3) cultural issues such as respect for others, civility and discipline, are the cause of this situation, which is also endemic.

The project serves children, youth and adults by strengthening Traffic Education with practices to improve conduct, respect, civility, clarification of traffic rules and regulations. Due to lack of knowledge and information, the community is negatively affected by fatal accidents or injuries, causing waste in hospital beds, waste by insurance and damage to families. Thus, through pedagogical activities, theoretical and practical classes, teaching, reading, writing and performing physical activities, together with computer games, will be attended by approximately 1,051 students of the 1st year, 989 of the 2nd year, 1,123 of the 3rd year and 1,075 of the 4th year, as well as 211 teachers, through the Traffic Education Space. Training of Rotary club members and municipal civil servants will be prioritized, as well as foreign language education to improve the lives of community members in the long term by preventing and mitigating complications caused by physical and mental traffic injuries.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
