Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Brazil

Location: Garuva/SC

Total Budget: $47,622

Area of Focus: Community economic development

The project will be held in the community of Palmital, in the municipality of Garuva, State of Santa Catarina, where there is the Rotary Center for Community Development. 166 people will benefit from the familiar community's nuclei, in a situation of social vulnerability. The problem is the economic shortage of the community and the social vulnerability of children and teenagers due to lack of activities in the part time out of school . And the solution will be to provide activity that empowers individuals in the community, generating work and income, and providing activities for students in the school counterpart. The Community Association of Palmital District, City of Garuva, Santa Catarina will be responsible for the use and maintenance. Based on the needs identified in the community of Palmital in the municipality of Garuva / SC / Brazil, focused mainly on economic and community development, the NRDC-Palmital, together with the Rotary Club of Garuva, decides: To develop and implement aquaculture in an intensive environment . Freshwater Psciculture System in 4 tanks of 20m³ each. This project was designed by the NRDC (Rotary Community Corps) group in this socially vulnerable community that includes 30 community members, 02 members of the Rotary Club of Garuva and 01 Interact Club of Garuva. With the income from the commercialization of the fish created in this aquaculture, 166 people from the families of this community will benefit immediately: 6 will be hired to work in this culture, 20 will receive training in aquaculture to expand this business in the community. The resources generated by the commercialization of the fish, after the first year of its implementation, will help the community to buy sports materials for the activities of 20 adolescents, buy materials for the workshops of manual and artistic works for 50 people, school supplies to offer the school contraturno for 70 children and adolescents from 6 to 12 years, will be the first actions implemented. After 2 years of cultivation and commercialization, Palmital's community benefits will be increased through the commercialization and distribution of fish in the region; training for other community leaders who also relate the preservation of the freshwater ecosystem; Reuse and treatment of water; Reuse of water for the community garden, which will be marketed in the community itself, in the Pousadas and Hotels installed there. The intensive psychology system will provide a more consistent and regular supply of fish and products; More predictable production, quality food and more homogeneous. Training and capacity building will be provided by a producer with extensive experience supported by EPAGRI - Agricultural Research and Rural Extension Company. The project will be sustainable, since the maintenance and acquisition of inputs will come from the commercialization of the fish. We already have partnerships with stores such as fishmongers, supermarkets, refrigerators, distributors and wholesalers. We have the involvement of 04 Rotarians who help the community in the research and learning of this cultivation technique, availability analysis, suppliers and budgets survey, contact and search of support and commitment of the public authorities. Practice area: economic and comunitaria development and environment.
