Small corn farmers make up one of the poorest groups of rural Guatemalans--with low yields trapping them in poverty. Corn is also a very low-nutrition food, and its high consumption by rural communities leaves Guatemala the 5th most malnourished country in the world, with nearly half of children stunted.
This global grant will help three local organizations produce and distribute more nutritious corn seed to over 10,000 small farmers in Guatemala, helping them to increase their incomes and produce more nutritious meals for nearly half a million Guatemalans.
DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
