NAME OF THE PROJECT: Dialysis Unit @ CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP HOSPITAL, Oddanchatram, Dindigul Dist.

To enable those people with Chronic Kidney Disease living in poverty access timely and quality support.

To ensure those needy people who can get excluded from the access to Dialysis have access to these services (affected people who cannot afford these services, people living with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and other needy people who experience stigma in their attempts at accessing dialysis.

BRIEF about the Beneficiary and the PROJECT SUMMARY The Christian Fellowship Hospital has been at the fore in providing quality, ethical and affordable health care and other services that target the most vulnerable and marginalised communities attempt at well being. Only 3% to 5% of all patients with ESRD(End Stage Renal Disease / Stage 5 of Chronic Kidney Failure) in India get some form of renal replacement therapy (RRT). A costing study by the Indian Medical association Taimlnadu branch pegged the cost at Rs.3400 per session if all standard guidelines and protocols are followed. For someone who does two sessions per week which is the bare minimum,(while 3 per week is just adequate and daily home sessions are the ideal) the cost comes to about Rs. 15,000 per month. Add to this, the cost of Erythropoietin, lab tests, doctor consultations and other medicines. The total cost of treatment, then, is at least, about Rs. 25,000 per month. A very miniscule percentage of the Indian population can afford this kind of recurring expense. As per data at the end of 2017, the number of beneficiaries under subsidized RRT in Tamilnadu was 4302 patients per year only, where the expected suffering population may be around 1,25,000 with around 68% shortfall of haemodialysis machine requirements.

It is in this context of need that Christian Fellowship Hospital hopes to provide a sustainable long term solution to affected people in Dindigul District. It proposes to provide quality, affordable dialysis services with inhouse nephrological consultation and facilitation targeting affected persons from impoverished backgrounds and others who might exprience stigma in thier access.

PROJECT BENEFICIARIES 1. The project will focus on enabling the poor who otherwise will struggle to access dialysis services access quality dialysis and Nephrological support services. Those affected who require this service on a regular basis will be assessed for priority through home visits by the social workers who are part of the community health department. Two of the six dialysis units will be available on proirity to this focus group.

2. Stigmatised people who require this service (those with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and other issues that predispose to discrimination against them in access to these services elsewhere) will be able to access these services on priority and one of the six units will be available to them exclusively, with potential to add more machines later if numbers increase.

3. The general public will further be able to access these services.

4.Through its community health department it will further hope to raise awareness and address the issues that predispose local communities to these chronic ailments
