Project Description

Region: North America

Country: Mexico

Location: Tijuana, Baja California

Total Budget: $37,000

Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

"Giving poverty public schools students a fair chance on their education/labor life".

Mexican federal congress approved to give "computer classes" to all their public school in mèxico, but assigned no budget to do so.

Mid education schoolars at poverty zones, are in disadvantage with private schools, because they have no computer skills, in many cases, have no computer at thier houses.

Teachers are trying to explain their students "how to work a computer" on the dash bored, or with paper copies, leaving no opportunity to learn and practice on a real computer, leaving on a strong labor disadvantage when they finish their mid education.

The tijuana agua caliente rotary club is concerned about this situation, and we have installed 5 computer laboratories at low-income schools, among the east and south of tijuana, with good atmosphere, infrastructure, responsable principal and teachers, and with a room destined for computers laboratories, with security, responsable pta, concerned about their children education, but with no resources to have a computer.

With this program, three parties sign an agreement with tijuana agua caliente rotary club (principal, teachers representative & pta), rules for the use of the computer laboratory, and maintenance fee (50 cents usa/cy).

Each computer laboratory, serves around 1,000 to 1,500 students, this program makes a strong social impact in our community, their education, working skills, and it will improve their future opportunities, translating in a better future life.

Computer laboratories are full equipped, dash boared, mouse, pc & screen, internet with secure programs.

The cost to each computer laboratory is $5,000.oo dolars (five thousand usa/cy), and our goal main goal is to build six more. Total cost: $30,000 usd.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
