Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Madurai

Total Budget: $60,285

Areas of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene, Basic education and literacy

Project Objectives

To provide classroom infrastructure, computer education facilities, sanitation & water facilities to the rural students studying at this school.

School : Government Hr.Sec.School- E.Malampatti

Location : H.S.S-E.MALAMPATTI NEAR KEELAVALAVU PANCHAYAT-MELUR TALUK MADURAI DISTRICT

Brief Project Summary

A structure to house 4 class rooms for English medium students. Due to lack of class rooms, students are now going to private schools in Melur that's 16 km's away.

Desks & benches

A toilet block with 8 units for the boys. The boys don't have toilet facilities at present.

The school does not have computers for their high school students studying computer courses. 15 computers with desks & UPS will suffice them.

The ground water is highly saline and not fit to drink. A Reverse Osmosis plant to cater the 400 students has been planned.

A smart class room will aid the students to learn subjects with proper understanding with the aid of graphic content.

An incinerator for safe disposal of sanitary napkins used by the girl students

Project Beneficiaries

There are 400 students studying in this school from poor and rural backgrounds. The majority of the students are girls. These children will be benefitted. GOVERNMENT HR.SEC.SCHOOL-E.MALAMPATTI

Area of Focus

Basic Education and Literacy, Water and Sanitation, Maternal and Child Health.

Project Sustainability

The facilities will be maintained by the school.

Expected Project Impact

The class rooms for the English medium students will help them study here which is close to their villages. Now they travel 17 km's to Melur to study in a private school.

The RO water treatment plant will help with the health of the students. With high salinity the ground water can have long term health impacts on the students like kidney stone formation etc.

The boys in the school don't have a proper toilet and they use the open grounds behind their school to urinate. A proper toilet facility will help improve public health

There are 32 computer science branch students with only 2 rented computers at present. The 15 computers we propose will help them in their computer literacy & proficiency, empowering them to be computer literates.

The proposed three class rooms need 30 sets of desks & benches to accommodate the students in class.

The smart class room facility will help students learn efficiently & effectively.

Napkins are burnt in open causing health risks. An incinerator will improve the situation
