Job opportunities for young persons and rural women in the highlands are non-existent or very limited, having to travel for economic reasons to the cities along the coast. This reality is more critical in the province of Julcán considered the poorest in Peru, with an average income of US$33 per family per month.
The project aims to benefit 100 families who are small producers in the provinces of Julcán; milk suppliers and processors of dairy products in such a way to increase their income, with the specialization and sale of high quality dairy products, in the market.
The project will address four key components: i) Construction and equipping of dairy processing plants (The construction is done by the beneficiaries and is not considered in the total cost of this project), ii) Strengthening capacities in processing dairy products, iii) Organizational strengthening and establishment of cooperative companies, iv) Marketing system and sales centers. Moreover, this project is part of a comprehensive initiative that addresses other critical aspects holistically, for which strategic alliances have been established with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Municipal Governments of the province, and the ONG CEDEPAS Norte, all committed to invest in the four additional components.
This project includes the following activities: training in the elaboration of dairy products, specialized advice in the elaboration of dairy products, equipping and implementation of 2 dairy processing plants, implementation of sales centers, consultancy and organizational training of milk suppliers and processors, commercial management and marketing training, organization of the offer for the organized commercialization of dairy products, and commercial management with potential clients. It is contemplated that through a specialized team, consulting and training methodologies will be implemented for the strengthening of technological capabilities and business and organizational skills of the beneficiary community.
The two main indicators of the project are EMPLOYMENT and INCOME aimed particularly at young
people and women. It will generate 2,566.5 incremental wages equivalent to 10 permanent jobs. Revenues will increase by 200% from the sale of milk, and 750% from the sale of dairy products in a period of 1 year. This in addition to the consolidation of the social capital and its family assets.
With this project we will contribute to the reduction of the poverty rates for the small producers of the province of Julcán.
