Drinking Water For 473 Indigen

History Logs

Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Argentina

Location: Formosa

Total Budget: $110,000

Area of Focus: Water and sanitation

The Project aims to improve access to safe water by the indigenous communities belonging to the original Qomle'ec people who have suffered the floods of the Pilcomayo River during the month of February of this year. 14 communities have been evacuated and can not return to their homes since the sediments of the river have left buried the available infrastructures: houses, schools, health centers, etc.

Currently, 473 families are relocating and do not have homes or access to water.

For this, it is proposed to build in the new settlements cisterns of 16,000 liters. With roof to harvest rainwater in order to ensure water supply.

The construction of the cisterns is accompanied by a Training Plan for water management with a focus on women, who are in charge of carrying water and domestic chores, so they suffer differentially from water scarcity.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions.
