Early Childhood Education and Literacy

The Global Grant Project, "Building the Knowledge of the Future," is the result of a partnership between the Rotary Club of Botucatu Cidade Alta and Nutras (Social Transformation Nucleus), and its main objective is to acquire Equipment (Furniture / Blackboards / Electronic Appliances / Computers, electronics and teaching materials), to be used by the partner entity in its new building under construction, offering the local community, Literacy classes, School reinforcement, sports practices and meals of good nutritional quality.

Currently, 113 children, aged between 4 and 14 years, are treated in an area of approximately 640 square meters. Two meals a day are offered (breakfast and lunch) for children who study in the morning and two meals a day (lunch and afternoon coffee) for children who study in the afternoon.

These children, who present in their totality, low financial condition (very poor families) or family instability, find in Nutras a safe environment, where they develop complementary and differentiated socio-educational activities, providing access to information, leisure, culture and education. Through this work, these small citizens of the future are taken out of the way of drugs and crime.

However, due to the lack of adequate infrastructure, it's not possible to offer better quality meals, as well as other complementary activities, which help in the literacy of these children, building better citizens.

A new 1.200 square-meter area is under construction, with spacious and comfortable classrooms, and thus, it is expected to expand service to up to 180 children per year. All the resources used in this construction come from donations and fundraising campaigns.

The works for construction of this new area are within schedule, and have delivery scheduled for December 1, 2018

The construction teams have worked hard to ensure the deadline and thus, provide quality education for the children of the community.

Through the Resources of this Global Grant, it is intended to install a Library, a Toy Library, Computer Room, Robotics Laboratory, 02 Rooms for School Reinforcement, Auditorium for exhibiting educational films, Room for sports activities and Refectory / Kitchen with better infrastructure (equipment).

After installing all equipment and purchasing the necessary materials, the Rotary Club of Botucatu Cidade Alta and Nutras, intends to use the facilities of the Informatics Room at night to offer free courses to the local community through partnership with volunteers.

This project fits into the Rotary International Focus Area, specifically in the area of "Early Childhood Education and Literacy."
