Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Argentina

Location: Pirane

Total Budget: $61,783

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

he project consists of supplying drinking water to a population group of 355 homes, 1400 inhabitants, which are currently supplied with unsafe water by hand pumps with extraction from the upper layers and close to blind wells

A drilling will be built between 15 and 25 meters, and the existence of potable water from 10 meters deep is assured by previous drilling and expert opinion; a 115mm diameter pipe, which goes from the absorption point to a tower tank 10 meters high.

By pumping, the water will be raised to a 10 meter high tank tower, from which the 110/75 mm diameter distribution pipe will be built, constituting a 3240 meter pipeline.

The population group receives the names of Barrios EL IDEAL and SAN NICOLAS, belonging to the periphery of the City of Pirane, Pirane Department, Province of Formosa, Argentine Republic.

Pirané, is located in the southeast of the province of Formosa, in the department of the same name, and 110 km from the provincial capital. This city was founded in 1912. Being the third city in population of the province of Formosa, according to the 2010 census, it has 20 335 inhabitants

The province of Formosa has the smallest economy in scale and importance of the country, with a Gross Product that represents around 0.48% of the National GDP. The Gross Product of the province is comprised of 13% for the primary sector, 18% for the secondary sector and 69% for the tertiary sector. Within the latter, the high participation of the public sector representing 45% of it stands out. The main source of resources is the provincial government itself, which is 95% financed by the National Government through Federal Co-Participation and ATN. The State is also the largest employer in the province, with 70,000 state employees, and about 40,000 beneficiaries of social plans, paid for by the Nation.

In short, genuine sources of income are very scarce, reflecting the little development in social infrastructure, the level of needs and poverty in which the inhabitants of Pirane live. Being here that one of the most urgent need is the provision of drinking water. Where the liquid element is a basic and fundamental need that crosses us all without distinguishing condition, for which each person requires at least 20 to 50 liters of clean and safe drinking water a day to drink, cook and simply stay clean.

Also in the world almost 2 million people die each year from diseases linked to unsafe water consumption

The GG will provide the materials, to be purchased through tenders in local suppliers and labor will be hired in the same locality
