Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: Philippines

Location: Quezon City

Total Budget: $207,000

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy

The project involves the purchase of a vehicle for preoperative preparations and post-operative monitoring of patients who underwent a procedure from the intra-operative vehicle called the "Hospital on Wheels" (HOW) of the Rotary Club of San Francisco Del Monte. The vehicle shall be equipped with standard monitoring equipment as well as equipment for preliminary emergency intervention. It shall also be capable of handling certain emergency procedures in times of disaster.

The "Hospital on Wheels" conducts surgical operations once a month and can cater to 40-60 procedures under local anesthesia or about 8-16 procedures under general anesthesia a day, depending on the type of cases. The proposed diagnostic vehicle is estimated to be capable of handling between 50-100 patients a day.

The surgical and medical Team are members of Rotary Clubs. This project gives hope and life to even far- flung indigents that cannot afford surgery, a service the government is not providing, and even the private sector. So far, this is the first in the world, a self sustaining mobile hospital provided and spearheaded by Rotary Clubs. The free surgeries that the "Hospital on Wheels" gives will enhance and improve the efficiency of hospital services with the addition of the bus.

The Diagnostic vehicle can be operational within 3 months upon funding approval.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
