Project aims to provide the Tripoli Governmental Hospital, in the North of Lebanon, with a Mammography machine, in order to provide needy women in the community with screening for breast cancer, free of charge . We expect to provide an average of 1000 women with the exam yearly. Early detection insure better survival rates for cancer patients.
The Tripoli Governmental Hospital is the only benevolent hospital in the vicinity , and it has signed an MOU with RC Tripoli and pledged to properly maintain the machine.
The North region is one of the most deprived and impoverished regions as shown by a study entitled "Lebanon's Map of Human poverty and Living Conditions".
The North Province in Lebanon occupies the highest percentage of financial poverty by 35%,
BREAST cancer screening using annual Mammography is a cost-effective tool to detect asymptomatic cancer, and that early detection improve the prognosis and reduces mortality the analysis supports the new ministry of public health guidelines to start BREAST cancer screening with Mammography at 40 years of age.
This project ensure sustainability by empowering the local community to take ownership of health care training programs.
More then ten dedicated Rotarians from R C Tripoli have pledged to contribute their time and expertise to ensure the successful implementation , stewardship and follow up of the project.
