Thousand Smiles is a Rotary project founded in 1985 by five Rotarians, one of whom is still actively involved: Bob Chalfa.
The project addresses the medical needs of underprivileged children with cleft palate and lip abnormalities and the health issues caused by these conditions. These issues include, but are not limited to, ear tube destruction/repair/replacement; hearing loss, speech pathologies, orthodontia, and all forms of general dentistry.
The Thousand Smiles Foundation, a 501(c)3, owns its own clinic building in Ensenada and now needs to expand the building to include two operating suites that will handle most of these surgeries.
This global grant will supply the infrastructure needs for completing this expansion: such as specialty items that are needed for operating suites including air conditioning, acrylic sanitary paint, wall and floor coverings, doors, and medical gas pipe and gauges.
D5340 is NOT a primary partner but will help in the funding of this grant along with District 5320 (parts of Orange and Los Angeles Counties) and District 5330 (riverside and parts of San Bernardino Counties).
PDG Sandi Rimer will answer questions. Contact her at srimer22@gmail.com or 760.644.2488.
