This project will further empower the Salvadoran Pediatric Cardiac Team to treat children with heart disease in their own country . With the addition of the new dedicated pediatric cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Hospital Bloom in November 2017, the hospital administration must adjust budgets to support the increase of children being treated. Therefore they require supplemental support to ensure surgeries continue to be completed in a reliable and sustainable manner. Additionally, the Salvadoran surgical and aftercare teams require additional mentoring in the treatment and post-operative care of children with complex heart disease. Lastly, it is essential for a program of this magnitude and complexity to have excellent imaging equipment to adequately diagnose children and to ensure all surgeries have been completed with the best possible outcome. At the request of the pediatric cardiac team, this grant will fund a state-of-the-art echocardiogram machine with probes. Additional grant funding will provide supplemental supplies and medications as well as training for the surgical team, post-operative team and nurses with regard to complex heart disease cases.

Rotarians will contribute to and manage grant funds. Local Rotarians will help with the collection of data for monitoring and evaluation of the project. They will also provide comfort and emotional support to the families of children treated. Another Rotarian responsibility will be to oversee the delivery of equipment to Hospital Bloom and arrange for media coverage of the project and contributions to Hospital Bloom as a a result.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
