Indeed, this proposal given by Universal Higher Education Trust emerged from results of a baseline survey done in Vellore district to find the factors which affecting access to higher education. The findings of the survey have clearly indicated that there is a greater need for awareness on higher education, especially among the disadvantaged population. Every year approximately 42,000 students complete grade 12 in Vellore district. but only about 32 percent of students are joining for higher education. This trend is mainly due to lack of awareness among students and parents on higher education, economic factors and poor guidance for students.
Therefore, this project intends to increase awareness on the opportunity and pathways available to the young people especially in the secondary level to choose and participate in Higher Education and Training aims to contribute meaningfully in the labour market and economic development of the society. Thus, this project attempts to facilitate higher education for the underprivileged students' especially orphan, semi-orphan, first-generation graduate in the family to access to higher education. It will also take necessary measures to create awareness on the importance and benefits of the higher education among poor and rural communities.
