This Kanungu Medical Center IV Equipment And Rehabilitation Project has a goal of providing for Katati Medical Center, located in Kanungu, Uganda. The Rotary grant has the objective of rehabilitating 1500 square meters of existing hospital rooms built in 1938. The Center was at one time ransacked by Idi Amin's troops. We will sand the walls down to apply new, updated, hospital grade paint, place easy to clean, hospital grade floors. solar lighting, repurposing smaller buildings to be sanitary Blocks. We are also working with Project Cure in Colorado to ship a container of medical equipment to Kanungu Uganda. Project Cure just recently sent evaluators along with Dr. Holger Listil, from Germany to evaluate the medical needs and Medical Equipment needed. The container will include an Ultrasound Machine, in addition to approximately $400,000 worth of other established as needed and sustainable equipment.

This Global grant will benefit Thousands of People every year. Over a five year period, approximately 150,000 people will be benefited. Not to mention the positive effects of the families who's loved ones have received proper care. And the Positive effects on the community.

The HOST Club is the Kabale Rotary Club in Uganda, the Cooperating partner is Great Lakes Regional University in Kanungu. We are also working with a Rotary Club of Memmingen, Germany and Doctors from Germany, who are completing a new Surgery Center. In addition Ugandan Doctors will be working at the Medical Center. Solar Power is also part of the project. We have been working with another non profit, who has been successfully installing solar power into schools in Uganda, All We Are. This Global Grant will save lives. Now, when a woman is delivering a baby at night, a small motorcycle called a BODA BODA pulls in and turns on the head light, so the midwife can see. If a woman cannot stop bleeding, or if she needs a C-section, the closest help is 2 1/2 to 3 hours away...IF there is a car, IF there is gas, and IF the roads are passable. With this new and improved medical center, doctors will be able to do surgery there at the center.

I have been working in this area of Uganda for about 15 years now on schools. This Medical Center is critical to the community. I have taken 15 trips to the area. I will be happy to fly to any Rotary Club to speak and give a power point Presentation. I will get there if you can give me a place to stay, a sofa will do. Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
