Project Description

Location: Lira

Total Budget: $64,538

Information resource and learning center

As a result of the two and half decades of protracted war that devastated Northern Uganda, Lango sub region in particular, there is total economic, social and moral break down in the entire life fibre of the local community. Education and educational services were ruined; social infrastructures were destroyed with many youth not attending formal education system.

Today 80% of the community within the sub-county are unable to access information because they are unable to read and write. This has affected their engagement on economic development since they cannot conduct trading. Some youth who have gone through this trauma has resorted to dubious act such as theft, gambling, drug and alcohol abuse.

Knowing the burdens that lack of information breeds ignorance, illiteracy, Poverty and Disease, gross abuse of individual and societal human rights and curtails profitable developments; thus causing dependency syndrome.

There is need therefore to provide an information resources and learning center equipped to empower and equip the youth with information needed for their development, researching, networking, trading and also engaged youth who are currently redundant and engaging in crime and drug abuse.
