Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Brazil

Location: Sao Jose do Rio Preto

Total Budget: $34,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Rotary Club São José do Rio Preto-Centenario is planning to put up a Science Laboratory in the ALARME (Children's Home Association) which attend about 700 children and adolescents of both sexes from low-income families. ALARME offers Regular Basic Education (Elementary and Secondary Education), 5 daily meals, educational materials and workshops, transportation, dental, psychological and social assistance, that allows to create better conditions for social and family relationships.

The project: the project aims to equip a Physics, Chemistry and Biology Laboratory. The laboratories are a fundamental need for ALARME providing quality education because the laboratory teaching is essential in the process of the individual formation enabling them to develop the skills, attitudes and values that provide greater knowledge and highlight the socio-cultural setting.

Club participation: all the 28 members of the RC Centenario are and will be involved in the project

ALARME counterpart: ALARME will provide in return to the global grant two classrooms that will be adapted for the installation of the laboratories.
