Summary: Every student at multiple elementary schools that serve low-income families will receive their own book that is both grade-specific and in line with their regular school curriculum. Rotarians will purchase and distribute the books in Phoenix, Arizona.
We have identified that within Phoenix, AZ there are several Title 1 elementary schools where school libraries have limited supply of books and children do not have access to books appropriate for their learning and grade levels. The Phoenix Arcadia Rotary Club has set out to help provide these students and their schools with a supply of hard cover books for students at each grade level. Through a partnership with the Assistance League of Phoenix, we have the ability to purchase hard cover books for about $1 per copy. The books will also include a space within the inside cover where we can include a Rotary branded sticker that can be used as nameplate for the student who takes the book home or for the school to designate it is library property. Our club members will be responsible for hosting a book drive at the selected schools to help pass out the donated books and stock the library shelves. We have targeted ten Title 1 elementary schools within our area who are eligible recipients. Our timeline for the completion of this drive would be October - December 2025, which corresponds with the fall breaks of the school year.
