Summary: Store Vouchers for Flood Victims in Southeast San Diego
|
In January 2024 a major rainstorm in San Diego caused massive flooding in the Southeast San Diego community. Lack of maintenance and upkeep combined with debris in the creeks caused flood waters to overflow into the streets and homes of hundreds of families living in the area. Homes were severely damaged or completely destroyed along with everything in the homes. Students/families at Balboa & Chavez Elementary Schools, located in the affected area, are in need of basic supplies and items. Working with the Principals and counselors at both schools we have identified 60 families, displaced by the flood, who desperately need help. Most of the families are in temporary housing, like hotels, with no idea of when or how they will get back into their homes. This grant will provide $50 vouchers/gift cards to purchase food, gas, clothing and emergency items. Each school will handle distribution of the vouchers and maintain records to document recipients & donations.
