Cheyenne Park & Pathway signs

History Logs

Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Cheyenne

Total Budget: $8,000

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Fourteen educational and wayfinding signs for Cheyenne, WY greenway and new east city park

The City of Cheyenne recently acquired a parcel on the east side of the city for the purposes of a new city park. The parcel is largely undeveloped, but the park's development plan has a phased approach, beginning with a gravel pathway and educational signage. Additionally, the new park will be connected to the city's greenway system making it easier to access, especially for children and families. From the Greater Cheyenne Greenway's Summary: "The Greenway serves as a safe and accessible recreational corridor; a key component of the non-motorized transportation system; an open-air science, ecology, history, and health classroom for students of all ages; and a vital public space integral in building sustainable, vibrant and healthy neighborhoods and a cohesive community."

The Rotary Club of Cheyenne, in partnership with the City of Cheyenne, has determined that signage will enhance the usability and experience of the Greenway and Park. Therefore the club is applying for a District grant to plan and develop wayfinding signage for the greenway as well as educational signage for the park. The signage helps to enhance user's experience and will be educational, so will tie in with two of Rotary's Areas of Focus, "Community and Economic Development" and the new area "Environment." Greenways and parks are important components of community development, enhancing a neighborhood's quality of life and pride of place, while preserving important land for water quality and small wildlife. The club will work together with staff from the city to appropriately design signage that encourages fitness, knowledge of local history, wildlife and habitat conservation, and other appropriate topics. The funds will pay for the design and construction of 5 educational signs for $700 each, and 9 wayfinding signs for $500 each. Planning and design will occur during the last two quarters of 2021, and installation is scheduled for Spring of 2022.
