Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Juneau

Total Budget: $2,000

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: Construction/Renovation

Summary: Exterior Building work on CBJ facility for Runaway and Homeless Youth

Wash vinly siding and paint soffits and trim on the main portion of newly purchased housing for Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) aged 10 to 18 in Juneau. The primary goal of the shelter is to provide RHY with immediate access to shelter and comprehensive services to maximize their safety, well-being, self-sufficiency, and adult permanent connections. Services will include emergency shelter, food and clothing for up to 21 days, counseling and support services, referrals, and aftercare-all within a Culturally Responsive, Trauma Informed, and Positive Youth Development framework. The ultimate goal of this facility is to provide kids with an option beside couch surfing, what can be unsafe, and to keep kids out of the state foster care when possible.

Working with a Rotarian from the Glacier Valley club, who owns the local paint store (and is giving us a discount), the estimate for the project is $2000.00. This includes cleaning supplies, tape, tarps, rent for power washers, paint brushes and rollers and miscellaneous tools etc. It is estimated that we will need about 18 gallons of paint to include primer, paint for the soffits and paint for the trim. This is the perfect project for our club as it is outside (many of our members are very concerned about Covid) and the tasks that need to be completed are varied and don't require any specific skill set except a willingness to wor
