Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Westchester

Total Budget: $5,000

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: Disaster Recovery

Summary: Provide 19,000 meals for needy families across Westchester, as part of a partnership between Feeding Westchester and Scarsdale Rotary.

We are partnering with "Feeding Westchester" which supplies 95 percent of all food distributed annually across our region's food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and day-care and residential programs - delivering over 9.3 million pounds of food and 7.8 million meals to people in 2018. "Feeding Westchester" also helps people learn to shop, cook and eat healthy on a limited budget, and they advocate for preservation and improvement of the public "safety net" programs that provide life-saving food to struggling families.

The scope of this project is to provide funds and volunteers for providing 19,000 meals to needy families identified by our Partner. Our project funds will be pooled to scale the project to the stated level. Our Club members and volunteers will help in packaging and distribution of the food, as well as monitoring the utilization of our support.

Our Club will raise funds and provide a minimum of $2500 for the project. and is seeking a matching grant of $2500 from the District. It is possible that we will raise additional funds to expand the scope of our participation. The project is expected to begin in early October 2020 and our portion should conclude by the end of this year.

The project has met the objective by collecting just over $2500 in donations by members to our Foundation, which we will give to Feeding Westchester along with the District Grant of $2500. We are now continuing to raise more funds, with a goal of raising an additional $5000 through community donations.
