Metroport Rotary (Southlake) sponsors 3 children at the Malaika Orphanage in Kampala, Uganda. 1 student is in elementary school @ $600 per year and 2 students are currently in high school @ $1,400 per year.
Contributions are made to the Malaika Orphanage Children's Foundation which is a non-profit founded and run by Arlington Sunset Rotarian Betty Bengo and her husband.
Funds are used to provide the students with housing, books, clothing, food and supplies. This project supports the mission of Rotary by providing education and literacy to the Uganda children, while also supporting good health and hygiene, with the ultimate goal of supporting the economic development of Uganda.
Historically paid in July, the school has requested to receive payment for 2021 in April/May so they can better plan their year which starts in July. This grant is for 2 years of funding of which all funds will be paid in the 20-21 Rotary year. The 2020 sponsorship has already been paid and the 2021 sponsorship will be paid in April/early May 2021. This grant will be completed in this Rotary year of 2020-21.
