Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Trophy Club, TX

Total Budget: $3,100

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: Providing “snack packs” to school kids so they have food on weekends.

This summer through a partnership with the Northwest Independent School District, our club did a food drive to provide "snack packs" for kids in our district, who were out of school due to the pandemic. These kids were dependent on school lunches and the weekend "snack packs" which suddenly halted. We were able to fulfill that need through donations from our Rotarians and the community. This week, the school district reached out to our Rotary Club and let us know that, in this school year, for the first time there was an immediate need at our local schools. In a predominantly affluent area such as ours, this is certainly a bit of an anomaly. But this is also a great opportunity to showcase the power of the Trophy Club Rotary Club to serve our community and show our true commitment to "service above self".

There are 18 high school kids, and 40 elementary school kids who are in need of the snack pack program. This program provides food items for these kids to take home on Fridays to bridge the gap on weekends when they do not receive a school lunch. We would like a grant to help us feed these kids throughout the entire school year. Our club was established less than 18 months ago and our fundraisers were scheduled to start during the pandemic. As a result, we don't have the funds yet to pay for these items as a club. Our "club contribution" will be through a food drive like the one we did this summer. We have two members who are business owners that are willing to personally provide the club contribution portion if needed. However, we are asking that based on the circumstances and the need we're trying to fulfill, you will allow our food drive to serve as the equivalent of the club contribution.
