Summary: Enhance the Outdoor LIving space for the residents of Cumbeland Preysbyterian Childrens Home in Denton, TX

The Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home has a 115-year legacy of protecting children and teens and

preserving families and providing long term care. We believe that abuse, neglect, trauma, poverty or family circumstances should never prevent someone from experiencing a safe, secure, loving and supportive home. The Cumberland Childrens Home provides services in the following areas -

#1 Family Residential Program

#2 Childrens Residential Program

#3 Treatment and Counseling

As many of the residents are in a long term situation, the purpose of the project is to increase the livability and the enjoyment by the residents of the Cumberland Presbyterian Childrens Home. Currently the main outdoor area, the pavilion and the fire pit, is in generally poor repair repair and offers little in the way of usability outside of periodic cookouts. With the leadership at CPCH, we have identified four area of focus

CUMBERLAND FACILITY

#1 Check all exterior lighting and add flood lights were needed

PAVILION

#1 To repair and increase the lighting in the pavilion using accent type lights to create a more inviting atmosphere for the Residents.

#2 We will also reduce the use of metal picnic tables and increase the type and variety of seating using Adirondack chairs made of a Trex type material to reduce maintenance and increase the useable life.

#3 Paint the concrete surface of the Pavillion and involve the residents in the design of the painted surface

#4 Add two Ceiling fans to increase the comfort level inside the space

#5 Add and supply 3 game closets for age appropriate games including corn hole games, giant Jenga, Horseshoes, Frisbees, sidewalk chalk, volley balls, footballs

#6 purchase and install a volley ball net in grass area close to pavilion

#7 Add four bluetooth speakers to the pavilion

FIRE PIT

#1 Add low voltage path lighting from the pavilion from the pavilion to the fire Pit

#2 Replace the benches with Adirondack style chairs. Currently the benches are in very poor repair and are not useable for seating

#3 Replace the current fire pit with a propane style fire pit for ease of use and increased safety

#4 Purchase a long hose to provide fire safety when the fire pit is being used

PLANTER BEDS

#1 Build 8 raised planter beds using 2x10 wood. These will be used by the Mothers in Children's currently residing in the family section of Cumberland Childerns Home (materials needed (48 - 2x10 weather treated wood)

The areas described above will create a more inviting atmosphere and provide for more activities for the residents. During our initial meeting, the statement was made that there is little for the residents to do outside. By enhancing these areas our aim is to increase the variety of outdoor activities.

The project will be completed by Nov 1st, 2020 and will involve the following steps

• Meet with Executive Director to outline project in terms of timing and meeting the state regulations related to this type of facility

• Work with Licensed electrician to survey and complete any required electrical work

• Acquire the material by Sept. 30th

• Schedule workdays throughout October.

• Volunteer labor will be provided primarily by Cross Timbers Rotary

• Final District Grant Report to be completed by Nov. 15th, 2020

As a Club, we are very generous with out time and to the extent permitted by code, we will use volunteer labor to help complete the four areas. The goal for completion is targeted for Novemeber 1st, 2020
