Project funds will be allocated to Mercy Meals of Nebraska in order to support packaging nourishing meals to benefit children across the United States and the world while also engaging a broad base of volunteers. Mercy Meals hopes to instill in their volunteer constituents a sense of self-empowerment, civic duty, world awareness, kindness toward our fellow men and women and appreciation for the blessings in their daily lives. They hope to impart the knowledge that they can make a difference in other people's lives by being informed, by making good choices in their lives, by giving their time and by donating their talents. According to Feeding America, more than 37 million people struggle with hunger in the United States, including more than 11 million children while the World Health Organization indicates that more than 820 million people face food insecurity globally. Grand Island Rotary Club Members are able to participate in food packaging events locally through the Orphan Grain Train.
