Location: Torrington

Total Budget: $11,419

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: It's Never too Late to Learn System: Is a robust digital interactive software learning system that engages seniors and helps build cognitive resiliency against dementia.

The Torrington Rotary Club created a satellite club 4-years ago and their stated purpose is to help provide resources and service to seniors and those community members afflicted by Alzheimers and dementia. The club has been and continues to change the lives of seniors in our region. Most recently they purchased with grant funds a music and memory program that helps cognitive growth and nuro-network for seniors. Additionally, they helped train our business community to create a dementia friendly society and have provide other technology items that illustrate complete support. The final push of support is to purchase an integrative learning system: 'It's Never too Late to Learn.' This dedicated system will be used in the senior living / Alzheimers / Dementia care facility in Torrington. The system integrates software and learning into a touchscreen environment. It allows for social interaction, games, group lessons, and builds a sense of community.

What will be purchased

50" Mobile Learning System - with IN2L software cost $8651.99

3 Pack of IN2L Learning Tablets with software subscription $2768.00

Club Members Involvement

Our club members live on the in-side of our local longterm care facilities. They visit family, friends, loved-ones, and donate time and treasure to the betterment of senior care. With providing matching funds our club will be able to assist with lessons, interact with residents, and share the values of the 4-way test. Caring for our seniors is a true way to help extend the importance of Rotary.

Timeline

upon receipt of grant funds the Torrington Rotary Club will work with our local care facility to purchase the software and equipment within the month of receipt.

Publicity

Torrington Rotary Club will also hold a press / media day to not only share with our community the investment in elder care but to showcase the software and spark additional interest.

Partnership

In our local care facility, we have an amazing partner, who brought this technology solution forward to our club. Hence they are 100% on-board and also possess the capability to use the software and hardware to enhance the lives of our seniors.
