Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Preston, Idaho

Total Budget: $4,096

Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: School Supplies for Preston Elementary School District

With almost 17% of children living below the poverty line in Franklin County, Idaho our Rotary Club is looking for proactive measures to help kids and families with an economic need. With improving education situations as an important step to improving long-term economic development, our project is focusing on a small but needed area of providing school supplies. We are initially working to provide backpacks and supplies for incoming 5th-grade students of Oakwood Elementary school. Working with the Preston Education Foundation who helped us identify this need, we expect to provide for every in-need child.

In the past, the Preston Education Foundation had an annual project to provide supplies and clothes for school children in need. However, they are no longer able to continue with this project. We believe this brings a more urgent need for our project to succeed.

The Rotary Club members will be raising funds, purchasing the supplies, preparing, and delivering the backpacks to the teachers for distribution to children. Distribution is expected in August 2020.

You need to provide a more specific spending plan for a project of this size. Include in your narrative how many backpack units you propose and what would be in them. You can upload a spreadsheet to the documents tab of this website showing the estimated costs of the backbacks and the supplies you want to fill them with. You can upload your other document as well. All documents relative to your application need to be uploaded as pdfs to this website. Thank you! If you need help, contact district grants subcommittee chair Ines Crespo, ines@glassinbalance.com

A total of $1500 has been spent for the project thus far to provide supplies to the elementary school for 25 backpacks and supplies for those in need students. With the pandemic and online learning, there has been a shift in need of supplies. We will be purchasing another round of supplies for teachers and students with the remaining $2595.We expect to complete the full project at the end of March 2021

This is a reminder that your final report is due May 15, 2021 (or a history log entry on your progress if the project isn't finished). Find the final report form on the administration side of the description tab. You'll need receipts to equal the expense amount you enter in the report. Your revenue must equal your expenses. Upload as pdf your final report and your receipts to the document tab of your grant, then click on "reported on the admin. side of the description tab. Failure to report by the deadline could result in the club being ineligible for a grant in 2021-22.
