Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Lemont and Homer Glen, Il

Total Budget: $2,500

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Scholarship

Summary: Provide 4 Leadership Awards for Graduating High School Senior who exhibit Leadership Ability

Each year Rotary Club of Lemont Homer Glen provides 4 scholarships for graduating High School Seniors who exhibit leadership ability. Applicants must highlight areas where they have exhibited leadership during their lifetime. Applicants must show involvement in volunteer organizations, school events or government agency events. Application is open to all graduating High School students in our geographic area who are enrolled at a University, College, Trade School or other type of tertiary education program. For the school year 2019 - 2020 this program had a total of 10 applicants. Applicants must also show a good GPA. The purpose of the Award is to assist future leaders in their academic development with additional funds outside of their school offered scholarships. The total amount of scholarships is $2,500 annually.

In the past this scholarship program was funded entirely by a wine tasting event that is held annually in the spring prior to the academic year. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were unable to hold this event. For this reason we are requesting that our 2020-2021 Grant be authorized to support the Leadership Award program. The total cost of the program is $2,500. The District grant of $610 will be applied to the program and the Club will make up the remaining $1,900 through additional fundraising events. donations and Club reserved funds.

The Leadership Award Program is a primary project for our club. The community supports this program and students look forward to the opportunity to receive this additional funding opportunity. We look forward to continuing this program in 2020-2021 and we are hopeful that our grant application will be accepted for this program.
