Encounter is an after-school Teen Arts Council project at the Holter Museum of Art located in Helena, Montana. The program brings teens and professional artists together to engage in art and build relationships that benefit the Helena community.
Encounter's public art project aims to highlight many issues important to teenagers in our community. These crosswalk designs embrace the beauty of our state, while also welcoming community participation. These designs consist of life-sized silhouettes depicting aspects of teens in the community. As visitors cross the streets, the images are designed to invoke their own shadows. Rotary will include a stencil of the Rotary Wheel in the design in order to highlight Rotary's involvement in the project.
This public art project's intent is to beautify Helena's downtown, enhance citizenship through youth participation and consequently highlight the importance of the arts for the community.
Rotary of Helena Sunrise will be integral in supporting this art project through providing paint, rollers, brushes, stencil making material, tarps, and gloves. Rotary members will not only participate in the overall coordination of the project, but will also provide support in marketing through our facebook page. We estimate that members will contribute approximately 40 volunteer hours in supporting this project.
This is an ongoing project by the Holter Museum and is dependent on weather. Therefore, the timeline for the project is uncertain. We hope to begin in the fall, but it may be pushed to Spring of 2021.
We are asking for a grant of $1500 from the District in order to further support the Holter and the teens in this after school art program.
