In an emergency, the two greatest concerns by those impacted are food and shelter. Our state and local governments are addressing the shelter needs of the homeless population, renters, and home owners. However, there is not a universal effort to help those impacted with a reliable food source.
The North Country Food Bank is part of the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. Last year, the Food Bank distributed 26 million pounds of food. On average, the Food Bank serves 370,000 people per month in San Diego County. On the recent news, the Food Bank helped 1,500 families in one day. Clearly, demand for a reliable food source is only going to increase as the unemployment rate continues to climb.
Many individuals in North County have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic especially those in the hospitality industry or those that cannot work from home. This grant would provide funds for North County Food Bank to buy food supplies for these individuals and their families. The Rotary Club of Carlsbad has supported the North County Food Bank in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
