Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Fort Collins

Total Budget: $6,000

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Our Christmas Basket program provides food for meals to families in need during the Christmas Holiday Season. We would like to serve 70 families this year.

Our Christmas basket program reaches out to partnering agencies such as Catholic Charities, United Way and Project Self-Sufficiency to identify well deserving families who are in need of food during this season. We work with the Larimer County Food Bank to see what they have for us to distribute as well. In 2018, we served 50 families. This year we would like to serve 70 families.

To fund this annual event we ask for donations from our club members, usually asking for these donations each week at our luncheon beginning 3 or 4 weeks prior to the event itself.

Below is a list of what we included in the Christmas Basket this year. Each year the contents of the Basket varies based on availability from the food bank, whatever we don't get from the food bank we purchase at a local grocery store:

- Ham

- Bag of Potato's

- Bag of Flour

- Bag of Sugar

- (2) Gallons of Milk

- (4) Cans of Vegetables

- Butter

- Cheese

- (2) Loafs of Bread

- Dozen Eggs

- Gravy packets

- (2) Cans of Peaches

- Apple Juice

- Peanut Butter

VOLUNTEERS

During the weeks prior to the event we also pass out sign-up sheets for volunteers who would be willing to distribute the food to the families in need, we encourage this to be a family activity. We are very fortunate that volunteers are no problem as it is a very rewarding activity for the whole family. The distribution of the meals usually takes less than 2 hours per volunteer, typically on the Saturday before Christmas.

PREP DAY:

The day prior to distribution all the food we pickup all the food from the food bank and grocery store. We meet at a local business where we have space for putting together the food baskets for distribution. We usually have 4 or 5 volunteers get all the food into each of the baskets (grocery bag or box) in a couple of hours.

DISTRIBUTION DAY:

Our club distributes the Christmas Baskets the weekend prior to Christmas. We usually have our delivery volunteers meet at the business where the baskets are around 9:00am that morning where we have donuts and coffee ready for delivery volunteers and their families. Each delivery volunteer will get an address/map for their basket delivery, usually 2 or 3 baskets per volunteer. The entire distribution is done within a few hours. Our club members and families look forward to participating in this great project for our community each year.

Randy, Kelly is no longer with the Foothills club and the email listed on this project is her old work email so she was not receiving updates. Carl Dierschow is now working to finish up the reports and be the contact for Kelly's grants. carl.dierschow@gmail.com I added Carl to the distribution list for all 4 of their club's grants and gave him admin access to do updates.

Thanks for uploading the checks. Who is Pete Thomas and what did he do for the project?

Once you upload the final report for the project I will close the grant out.

The final report is 99% done and under final review. Pete Thomas was the club member who organized the event, and Kelly Moll was the one who applied for the Grant. Both of them left the club during the pandemic. Heather Buoniconti has been our contact with Larimer County Food Bank, and is a club member.

I have full accounting (receipts, check images) for every penny which was spent, so we're good. I uploaded the two check images yesterday under "documents". Unfortunately, I did it twice, because it didn't show up when I uploaded it so I thought I did it wrong. But no problem having two copies here.

I think I have removed Kelly and added you. Let me know if you still see her email when you get this.
